If today were my last day on Earth and I could share 500 words of brilliance with the world, here are the important things I'd want to pass along to others... To escape the dangers of war in Israel, my parents moved our family to Montreal, Canada, in 1967 so that we could grow up in a safe environment full of opportunity. Times were tough, but the one thing that we always had an abundance of was love.By the age of eight I found myself running with a bad crowd who were adept at shoplifting and other petty crimes. Even though I was not entirely comfortable with the idea of stealing, the allure of belonging and being accepted kept me close with this group of kids for several years. It wasn't until I started working at the Jewish community center in my neighborhood, tending to the gym, when I first became aware that I could achieve any goal that I set out to obtain. I surrounded myself with the successful businessmen who flocked to the sauna after a day's work. Here is where I learned my first lesson and realized that I have the power to turn my dreams into reality. What I learned from these men was never to give up on pursing your dreams. No matter what failure you face, try another way; try going up, over, around, or through, but never give up. In my early childhood, I used to think that success was reserved for those without challenges and to whom every advantage had been given. I couldn't have been more wrong. Here's what I came to know: Regardless of the excuses you can come up with as to why you can't live the life of your dreams, someone out there is in a similar or worse situation and is overcoming it while you're complaining about it. Someone out there is far worse off than you are right now but is going after having it all. As a young adult, I immersed myself in real estate and found a mentor. Alan Brown was a real estate mogul and one of the most important figures in my self development and transition toward creating a successful and meaningful life. At the age of 20 and in only my second year in the industry, I made $150,000. Being so successful and at such a young age allowed me to realize my true passion for helping other small-business owners achieve the same kind of success that I was. Pursuing money to the exclusion of everything else does not bring lasting happiness. I thought money alone would do it for me. But none of the money I earned brought me deep satisfaction and self worth. Fortunately I acquired self-respect and integrity by working honestly, but I also began to realize that my personal definition of true success included much more than just the acquisition of money. Now, at my newest company OneCoach, my business partner Murray Smith and I are setting out to help a million entrepreneurs and small-business owners world-wide grow their businesses and achieve financial freedom. Each day, I get the opportunity to positively change the lives of people from all different backgrounds. My childhood was plagued with violence, I didn't grow up with an abundance of monetary resources, I didn't graduate from college, but today I am a successful businessman and I am living my dream! You can achieve anything in life with focus, drive and a vision. |
