If today were my last day on Earth and I could share 500 words of brilliance with the world, here are the important things I'd want to pass along to others... My greatest brilliance is my fierce commitment to transform the workplace into a place where everyone lives a "Thank God It's Monday" spirit-a spirit in which fun, and the joy of creating massive results that matter, feeds the soul of each contributor. Most workplaces resemble adult day care. Gossip, resentments, jealousy, whining, victimhood, and excuses all manifest into a soulless environment in which wounded players spend each day doing their "job description" while failing to understand the massive contribution they could be making through their work. Worse yet, they fail to grasp the great self-healing they could have if only they would step up and bring their higher selves to work. "Experts" have long claimed that it takes at least two years to create a great workplace culture. I don't believe that for a second. For almost two decades I've been teaching a process that creates the transformation within one day and STICKS. When a mindset shifts, results are immediate. Here's an example. One large community bank in Tennessee had no real growth for ten years except through acquisition. They were struggling to remain profitable. They had tried everything: consultants, strategic planning, sales training...the list goes on. Then, when they were just about to throw in the towel on creating better results, they tried a significant emotional event, an event that shifted deep mindsets instead of the shallow surface of the culture. And what do you think happened? In the first 30 days after that event, they grew 35 percent annualized. They decided to "go" and created the agreements. Since then, they have continued to reap the rewards, remaining one of the fastest growing and most profitable banks in their market, with increases of profit of 44 percent per annum continuing years later! This kind of result happens when people make agreements about what guides them. Here are some critical understandings necessary to create a transformed workplace: When people align around a vision of great service, pettiness and dysfunctional behaviors fall away and people become who they need to be to make it happen. Work is one of the greatest vehicles by which we bring our love to the world. WE individually make the decision to be a great contributor. It's a decision made without regard to circumstances. Life gives to the givers and takes from the takers, and the world has a perfect accounting system. If you want more love or more money, give more love and far, far, far more value with no expectation of a return. Only then will you get what you want. Results follow consciousness. If you want to create better results, become more conscious and alter the beliefs you accepted to be true that hold you back from living your personal brilliance. We are socialized to play small. We all live at a small fraction of the contribution we could be making. However, when one person decides to play big, they create a "drip, drip, drip" of positive annoyance. Soon those around them have no choice but to be inspired to play big, too. The natural inclination for most of us is to make life complicated and difficult. We focus on what we don't have instead of committing to creating a different result. As a result of this mindset, most of the population gets up in the morning, has their coffee, drives to work, punches in, does "their job," punches out, drives home, eats dinner, watches television, goes to sleep, wakes up-and repeats the pattern, over and over again. When we understand that our life was supposed to be more than that, and that ANY job is filled with opportunities to create joy and massive results, we bring a slice of heaven into each and every day. Living an inspired life is a choice, and it happens in a moment. Choose well. |
