Every day, there is so much to be thankful for. Our health, families, friends, homes, and meals are big ones, followed by much simpler things in life like the freedom to purchase a Coke from the store, a tender baby’s smile, or a kiss from a loved one.
We should be thankful for all of life’s blessings year-round, but Thanksgiving is a special time to really show gratitude. Now is the time to focus on what we have, not on what we don’t. Focus on the big things along with the little things. Life is short, and each and every day is a gift.
Below is a collection of quotes reminding us of just how delicate and special life can be – and there’s no better time to recognize this than Thanksgiving.
On Gratitude
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. – William Arthur Ward
To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven. – Johannes A. Gaertner
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. – Melody Beattie
Gratitude is a quality similar to electricity: It must be produced and discharged and used up in order to exist at all. – William Faulkner
On Being Thankful
On Thanksgiving Day we acknowledge our dependence. – William Jennings Bryan
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was “Thank you,” that would suffice. – Meister Eckhart
No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks. – Anonymous
God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you”? – William A. Ward
How wonderful it would be if we could help our children and grandchildren to learn thanksgiving at an early age. Thanksgiving opens the doors. It changes a child’s personality. A child is resentful, negative – or thankful. Thankful children want to give, they radiate happiness, they draw people. – Sir John Templeton
Humorous Thanksgiving Quotes
God gave us our relatives; thank God we can choose our friends. – Ethel Watts Mumford
Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-time takes twelve minutes. This is not coincidence. – Erma Bombeck
An optimist is a person who starts a new diet on Thanksgiving Day. – Irv Kupcine
Here I am 5 o’clock in the morning stuffing bread crumbs up a dead bird’s butt. – Roseanne Barr
May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs! – Anonymous

This year, as we go around the table saying our thanks, let’s make it a goal to show more gratitude every day of the year, instead of just one. Consider making a gratitude list once a week with your family, or expressing nightly what we are thankful for around the dinner table. Being grateful and appreciating your life will only enhance it.
What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday…. – Anonymous
